Line Edit

If you're happy with the structural elements of your novel but feel that the writing needs another look, a line edit could be what you need. For a line edit, I'll go through your entire manuscript and make comments in the margins and corrections via track changes to address the flow of the sentences. A few of the elements I'll be looking out for are: sentence structure, sentence length variation, rhythm of the prose, perspective shifts, tense shifts, unclear language, clunky phrasing, positioning, and action sequences. A line edit will also include some of the same elements as a copy edit, though it will be much more rigorous. While this service is focused on the prose itself, I will make note of any developmental issues I notice as I read, such as plot holes or moments where the pacing feels off.

For a line edit, I'll provide a marked document, a style sheet, and a detailed edit letter. I'll also set up a call with you after delivering the manuscript to discuss the edits and so that I can answer any questions you have.

Not sure where to start with your manuscript edits? A manuscript evaluation might be what you need. It's a broad overview of every element of your novel. I won't leave any comments in the document itself. Instead, I'll provide you with an edit letter covering everything I noticed while reading your novel. I'll discuss character, style, pacing, worldbuilding, dialogue, plot, and structure. This is a service intended to inform you of what generally works and what might need a little tweaking in the novel as a whole. It is not an in-depth edit.

If you're confident that your prose and structure are the best they can be, you might need a copy edit. For a copy edit, I'll look at grammar, punctuation, and typos, and I'll do some basic fact-checking if necessary. This is a very careful, detailed look at the words themselves. With a copy edit you'll get a squeaky-clean manuscript. I won't comment on structural elements or provide an edit letter, but I'll write you a style guide keeping track of continuity elements and style conventions.

I require a sample of 1000 words to ensure that a copy edit is indeed what you need, as opposed to a line edit.

Typically the first step after you've made your novel the best you can on your own, the developmental edit exists to help you perfect your plot and structure. For a developmental edit, I'll go through your novel and examine your character arcs, tense and point of view, worldbuilding and magic system (if applicable), plot points, and pacing. This is a big-picture edit to make sure the book as a whole is cohesive and keeps the reader invested. The dev edit is also where I'll address issues like manuscript length, themes, and what you feel is the core of the book. This way, I can help you make your vision for the story come to life. I'll write you a detailed edit letter to discuss how each element of your novel comes together, and I'll set up a call with you to talk everything out, answer any questions you may have, and plan the next steps.
